The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) Farms of the Future team travelled to the Western Region in a specially equipped AgTech bus, showcasing the latest agricultural technologies and innovations to landholders and school students in Bourke and Cobar.

The issue
The Western Region faces unique challenges in adopting agricultural technology. The remoteness of many farming enterprises can limit exposure to new innovations, reduce access to training and support services, and increase the cost of implementation. Combined with connectivity constraints and the need for technologies that are suited to local conditions, these factors can slow the uptake of tools that would otherwise enhance productivity, sustainability, and decision-making on farm.
The solution
To address this challenge, the Farms of the Future team took the latest agricultural technologies directly to regional communities. By travelling to Bourke and Cobar, the team provided landholders and school students with hands-on exposure to emerging AgTech solutions, demonstrations of practical applications, and opportunities to engage directly with industry experts. This reduced the barriers of distance and remoteness, helping local communities better understand how new technologies can improve farm productivity, efficiency, and sustainability.
The impact
By delivering these events in Bourke and Cobar, the Farms of the Future team increased awareness and understanding of emerging agricultural technologies among landholders and students.
