Bombay Landcare AGM Hosts Peter West from FeralScan

Bombay Landcare welcomed over than 20 new and existing members to its Annual General Meeting at the Braidwood Servicemen’s Club on Saturday 1 August, celebrating another successful year of projects, achievements and some fantastic fundraising efforts through the Bombay display board merchandise .

The meeting featured special guest speaker Peter West, coordinator of the national FeralScan program and a researcher in pest animal management with NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Vertebrate Pest Research Unit. With more than 20 years of experience in the field, Peter shared insights into community-based pest monitoring and the role of technology in improving biosecurity outcomes.

Peter highlighted the success of FeralScan, a community pest animal recording and management platform that has supported communities for 15 years and collected more than 1.6 million records nationwide. He also explained how the local Landcare group may be able to use the online tool to help coordinate pest animal activity and control methods - particularly for feral pigs which are currently causing a lot of damage digging up the district. The platform enables farmers, landholders and biosecurity stakeholders to report and monitor pest animal activity, helping to guide management decisions.

Following the AGM and FeralScan presentation, the Bombay Landcarers enjoyed a shared meal at the Braidwood Servicemen’s Club, celebrating the strong community spirit that continues to drive the group's success.
