The issue
Nocturnal animals live around us, but are not often seen due to their nighttime loving lives. We saw a need to increase awareness for the often overlooked species, and what better way to do that than to engage and educate young people.
The solution
In collaboration with Orange City Council, Central Tablelands Local Land Services, Orange City Library, Orange Field Naturalists, Orange Rotary and ECCO Orange, we organised a community art show to present at the Rotary Sustainable Living Expo. This art show had different categories including a colouring-in showcase for pre and primary school students and an open category for high school students and above.
We had great engagement from the students at Canowindra High School, who painted a parliament of owls, as well young kids colouring in at Orange City Library, and some print making from Orange Library Homeschooling group.
The impact
The art show was presented at the Rotary Sustainable Living Expo, and was well recieved by locals. It was wonderful to see young people coming together to create some nature-themed art, and we hope that this has increased awareness of our nocturnal friends.
