Aboriginal Partnerships in the Central West

Strengthening Aboriginal partnerships in the Central West through collaborative Landcaring.

This project will see Landcare working proactively with the Aboriginal community across the Central West by:

1. employing an Aboriginal Landcare Coordinator to support and develop partnership opportunities between Landcare and the Aboriginal community,

2. providing training opportunities to increase cultural awareness in Landcare staff and volunteers and the central west community. These Landcare groups will be hosting Cultural Awareness training in their local areas during 2026/27 (Dates TBC):

• Mid Macquarie Landcare
• Central West Lachlan Landcare 
• Condobolin District Landcare
• Coonamble Landcare
• 3 Rivers Landcare (Dunedoo, Coolah, Mendooran) and
• Weddin Landcare

3. delivering a range of local and regional priority projects that enable Landcare to proactively partner with local Aboriginal communities to care for the land including:

• Seed collection training on country in each Landcare location (Dates TBC)
• Coonabarabran LALC reserve management planning and implementation
• October: Coonamble Carp Buster with Coonamble Landcare
• Galari Farm on-country compost demo days and Wiradjuri Centre learning days with Condobolin District Landcare
• Mendooran Bush Foods and Weaving workshop with Three Rivers Landcare
• Indigenous Astrology/Dark Sky Dreaming Story Telling with Three Rivers Landcare
• Storytelling through video and photography with Three Rivers Landcare
• Bush Tucker Plant Propagation at Weddin Community Native Nursery
• Bush rehab and Naidoc Day at Vaughans Dam with Weddin Landcare
• Seed bank & nursery investigations for Yindyamarra Group and Mid Macquarie Landcare
• Parkes Naidoc Family Fun Day with Central West Lachlan Landcare
• Building community gathering space at Peak Hill Flora and Fauna Reserve
• Update of Central West Lachlan Landcare RAP
