Farm Visit - Multi-Species Pasture Soil Improvement Project Craig's Place

Craig's multi-species pasture and soil improvement project is about improving soil biology and soil structure by reducing chemical inputs in particular herbicides and fertilizers. The multi-species crop includes brassicas that will break up the soil thereby enabling it to hold more moisture and to build more soil organic carbon. Two agents have been used to improve the soil biology and to promote strong healthy growth with the objective of completely removing the use of chemicals within a period of twelve months.

This event is also an opportunity to meet our new project officer Hannah, for those who have yet to do that. Hannah will be working closely with Craig on the project as well as catching up with other members of the group. A key objective of the meetings is to write a summary of the farm and farmer that is intended to help group members seeking advice on a particular farming matter.

Craig now some 10 acres (I think) planted as a trial plot and some 50 acres in total has been planted with the multi-species mix, including paddock that has duck's doings that was spread across it some two seasons ago. So there is the opportunity to see a variety of paddocks sown with different inputs.
