Native Seedling Giveaway 2025
An annual giveaway supporting local landholders with native seedlings to improve biodiversity, resilience, and landscape health.
Capacity building - LEP23-005-Condo-05_LLC_007
The issue
Our region faces ongoing land degradation from drought, salinity, and flood impacts. Local landholders were seeking practical, affordable ways to improve biodiversity, support regeneration, and plant species that offer both resilience and benefit to livestock and the landscape.
The solution
We sourced native seedlings from Weddin Community Native Nursery in Grenfell and transported them back to Condobolin. The plants were carefully maintained until they could be delivered or picked up by community members who submitted expressions of interest for specific land care projects.
The impact
Over 1,000 native seedlings were distributed to local landholders for biodiversity, shelterbelts, salinity control, stock fodder, and regenerative planting. This helped strengthen local capacity for environmental stewardship and increased awareness of native species suited to local conditions.
Learnings
Storing and caring for seedlings prior to distribution worked well with regular watering and shade. A clearer timeline for pick-up would improve logistics. Partnering with a nearby community native nursery ensured we had appropriate species and healthy plants ready for planting.
