Eastern Riverina Landcare Group - Squirrel Glider Monitoring Program

Eastern Riverina Landcare Group have been improving Squirrel Glider habitat for the last 20 years. Monitoring over the last 5 year has shown improved numbers.

ERL have been improving Squirrel Glider habitat. This involves removing barbed wire fencing, new fencing to protect existing habitat, revegetation and installation of nest boxes. Forty-two (42) nest boxes were installed in a laneway near Henty over the last 20 years. In the last 5 years the group has monitored use. 2019 - 2023 the average glider count was 5. In 2024 the group was delighted with 16 gliders across 6 boxes, with more boxes showing evidence of use. This project was possible through self-funding and programs through Riverina LLS, Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc and Holbrook Landcare.
