Fire Recovery in the Wollombi Valley

A community landowner meeting was held Saturday 7th March 2020 with approximately 80 people in attendance, to discuss and prepare a response to the recent fires in the Wollombi Valley. Landowners identified their immediate needs for bush fire recovery, and had their questions answered on where and how to seek assistance for various fire recovery resources available. Landowners talked about their observations on wildlife movements since the fire, weed and pest management issues. Australian Wildlife Conservancy is undertaking ecological surveys, the Australian Association of Bush Regenerators is running workshops to guide landowners through weed management, and the Hunter Region Landcare Network provided habitat logs and nest boxes, and wildlife cameras for monitoring over the next few months.

Since this meeting, two workshops have been conducted to help landowners with recovery on their properties from weed management to fauna habitat.
