2026 Koala Feed Tree Giveaway
The Macleay Landcare Network delivered a Koala Feed Tree Giveaway in partnership with DCCEEW, Kempsey Council, Forestry Corp and Koala Conservation Australia

The issue
Local Koala populations have been significantly impacted in the region following years of natural disasters including drought, fires and flooding. This has also reduced prime habitat and food sources for Koalas across the Kempsey LGA.
The solution
Over the past 5 years Macleay Landcare has been forming partnerships and working with teams to restore and improve Koala habitat. MLN hosted a Koala feed tree giveaway with support from Kempsey council, DCCEEW and Koala Conservation Australia staff, with trees donated by Forestry corporation to give away free feed trees to local land owners. This will ensure prime food sources are spread throughout the valley and land owners can support tree planting needs for free. " This is an excellent opportunity for farmers and landowners looking to support habitat, paddock tree or shelter belt needs in the valley in a cost effective way", Landcare Officer Louis said.
The impact
Over 2500 trees were given away to land owners throughout the Macleay Valley. "This will have fantastic outcomes for biodiversity throughout the Valley and create habitat links and islands that support biodiversity and production into the future", Landcare Officer Louis said. MLN will continue to support Habitat restoration in any way we can in the Macleay into the future.
