The issue
Along with many Landcare groups across the state, MidCoast 2 Tops was approached by Landcare NSW about being filmed for a series of short films being made to capture the impact of Landcare.
As 2025 was the 30th anniversary of the formation of Manning Coastcare, this was seen as an opportunity to get our own short film made to commemorate the group’s achievements over the past 30 years, as well as highlight its future focus for the coming decades
The solution
LLC - Coast, Helen Kemp, made enquiries with both Landcare NSW and the film makers that had been engaged (Nviro Media) about the viability of the idea, proposed the idea to the Manning Coastcare committee, and then sought a quote.
A full day of filming was undertaken in a variety of locations around Black Head and Wallabi Point, with around 15 volunteers turning out for the filming of “b-roll” footage of Coastcarers in action. Interviews were also conducted with Daintry Gerrand, Manning Coastcare founder and president, Tony Wales, Wallabi Point Coastcare convenor, LLC Helen, MidCoast Council Environmental Officer Anthony Marchment and Brian Long, one of Manning Coastcare’s longest serving members. Nviro Media then edited together a fantastic 6 minute short film.
The impact
The final short film captures the essence of the work that Manning Coastcare has achieved over its decades of work, as well as its vision for facing future challenges. The film had its debut at the Manning Coastcare 30th Anniversary Celebration evening on 22nd August 2025, and was also selected to feature in Landcare’s inaugural Short Film Festival as part of the National Landcare Conference in September. The film has amassed 217 views on the Manning Coastcare YouTube channel, and will continue to be used for years to share the Manning Coastcare story.
