Planning for Planting Part 1 Field Visit Sunday 6th May 9.30am - 12.30pm

MLG NEWS FLASH- Planning for Planting Part 1 Field Visit -Sunday 6th May 9.30am - 12.30pm As advised on 30 March, our MLG event in May is a field visit to look at a property and discuss the issues to be considered in planning for revegetation. Russ Wise and Wendy Tassell have kindly volunteered their 10ha property for this visit. What: This walk and talk will look at a range of issues to consider when planning to undertake a revegetation project, as well as when dealing with historic erosion problems, including: - best practice weed and pasture management; - identifying existing trees, shrubs and pasture species; - selecting areas for replanting; - preparing the site; - selecting tree and shrub species best suited to our Murrumbateman area and for the revegetation site; - when to use direct seeding or tube stock; - where to source tubestock; - the benefits to birds from shrub plantings; and - having a healthy, wildlife friendly dam. When: Sunday 6th May 9.30am - 12.30pm, with morning tea on arrival (helps with those running late!). We will have copies available of MLG’s guide to tree and shrub species suitable for revegetation projects and lists of the trees and shrub seeds available for propagation at the MLG native plant nursery. Where: I’ll send the address and contact phone details to those who RSVP. RSVP: email to me (bob.mccoll.bm@gmail.com) please by Friday 4 May. NOTE: The sequel to this field trip will be our August meeting “Planning for planting Part 2 – a guide to plant selection for your property”.
