Toongabbie Partnerships

Planning and partnership development to re-establish bush regeneration and community stewardship at Toongabbie Creek.

The issue

Toongabbie Creek is an important tributary of the Parramatta River that provides habitat for native wildlife and improves downstream water quality. The site previously benefited from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners bush care activities in the early 2000s, but coordinated restoration had largely ceased. There was an opportunity to reconnect community, council and corporate partners to restart restoration activities and build long-term stewardship of the creek.

The solution

During the 2025–26 financial year, PRCG coordinated planning for a collaborative bushcare event with Greater Sydney Landcare, Friends of Toongabbie Creek, City of Parramatta Bushcare and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners. The project also incorporated environmental education and citizen science through iNaturalist to encourage volunteers to remain involved beyond the event.

The impact

The project re-established strong partnerships to support the future restoration of Toongabbie Creek. Planning undertaken during the reporting period created a foundation for renewed bush care, environmental education and volunteer engagement, while reconnecting organisations with a shared interest in improving the health of the Parramatta River catchment.

Future Directions

The partnership event is scheduled for October 2026 and will combine bush regeneration, wildlife education and citizen science to encourage long-term stewardship of Toongabbie Creek.
