Connecting through Landcare Link Up
A space to connect with our Local Landcare Groups and associated members, and for these groups and members to share information, stories and resources with each other

The issue
Richmond Landcare Inc. supports 45+ Local Landcare Groups working on the ground in our catchment area. All of these groups are doing incredible work in their areas, working across both private and public land with different visions, goals and aims. The issue is that at times these groups may feel like they are working in isolation and not often able to connect and share or seek input from others or other groups working around them.
The solution
To facilitate connection and a safe space to share experiences, lessons, information, resources and knowledge, Richmond Landcare Inc. introduced our Landcare Link Up events. The aim of these events is to bring our Local Landcare Groups and associated members together to share and connect and to also provide a space for questions or support from and to Richmond Landcare Inc. and learn how we can better support our groups working on the ground.
The impact
Over the past 14 months, we have hosted two Landcare Link Up events, connecting with 18 of our Local Landcare Groups and their members. These events have provided invaluable insights into the needs, achievements, successes, and challenges of our groups, and how RLI can better support them. They have also created opportunities for groups to connect, share experiences, and build relationships, highlighting that Landcare delivers strong social outcomes alongside environmental ones.
Feedback from the Link Up events included interest in visiting and working across each other’s sites to learn from different approaches and achievements. A shared events calendar, suggested at the first Link Up, has since been added to the RLI website to promote group working bees. Another key suggestion was increased engagement at community events. In response, RLI will attend community and farmers markets, as well as TAFE and university open days, using our community outreach trailer to engage new volunteers and share NRM resources and updates on the work of our Landcare Groups, including how to get involved.
