Small Grants to support BIG efforts
Richmond Landcare Inc's Small Grants program aims to provide a little extra support to our member groups

The issue
Our member groups work incredibly hard to do the work they do to protect our environment every day. One of the most important things members need to facilitate this work is reliable tools and equipment, as well as providing information about current work and support for future works. The issue groups face is that often upgrading these tools and equipment or other important activities can fall to the wayside when there is so much great work to be done.
The solution
To support our groups, Richmond Landcare Inc. introduced the Small Grants program. The program seeks to support and enable Landcare activities and programs on the ground. As part of the small grants program, all member groups were eligible to apply for up to $500 (Inc. GST) to support their work.
The impact
As a result, nine of our member groups received funding from the small grants initiative to upgrade their tools and equipment or to support other projects of their choice. One of these groups was Tregeagle Landcare. This group used the funding towards the preparation of a concept plan for a community environmental wellbeing space project in the Tregeagle community.
Another group was Jiggi Catchment Landcare Group. They used the funds towards an auger to make planting work more efficient. Jiggi Landcare Group managed to plant 250 trees in one morning thanks to their new auger. And the Wilson Nature Reserve Landcare Group purchased signage to raise public awareness of the Landcare work the group undertakes within the Wilsons Nature Reserve.
Learnings
Our Landcare Groups work so hard and upgrading their tools and equipment is essential to support the amazing work they do every day. The small grants program fills a gap where council doesn’t provide support, for tools and equipment, and for other jobs that may require a little extra funding, like signage to share their work with the community or for future projects. It was a great way to support our Landcare Groups and ensure they feel supported by Richmond Landcare Inc.
