The local Mongarlowe community and broader Landcare network is invited to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Aboriginal plant knowledge with Adam Shipp of Yurbay.

Adam has come all the way from Dubbo to support a series of activities with Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council and different school groups around Braidwood. However, an evening workshop for the general public is on offer.

The activity will run for 1.5-2 hours and feature an introduction to Aboriginal plant uses and a walk on country in the bush setting of Tombarra on the Mongarlowe river. Please be aware this may include a bush walk to the river, which is potential habitat for wildlife like platypus, but also snakes, mozzies and/or leeches.

Adam's workshop will be followed by a light dinner put on by Landcare around 6:30-7:30pm. Adam is staying for dinner and can continue to yarn with participants around the fire pit about all things bushfoods, medicine, gardens, and traditional Aboriginal plant knowledge.

This is a ticketed event and all sales go toward covering catering and workshop expenses beyond the scope of Landcare's original youth engagement grant project. Thanks for your understanding, some things can't run on volunteer enthusiasm alone!

What to Bring:

  • Sturdy footwear

  • Insect repellent

  • Warm layers and/or wet weather gear depending on the forecast

More About Adam and Yurbay:

Adam Shipp is a First Nations educator who founded Yurbay in 2018. Adam is a proud Wiradjuri man, his bloodlines through his father extend across many areas of central west NSW.

Yurbay brings the passion of traditional Aboriginal plant use, healing, country and culture to the heart of what they do.  Pronounced You ra by - Yurbay is one of the Wiradjuri language words for ‘seed’. They chose this name to exemplify not only their love of plants, but the endless opportunity for growth through resilience and strength.
