The issue

With burnout on the rise, blurred lines between work and life through increased technology use and stress from economic and social challenges finding the time slow down, switch off and connect with nature can be difficult. Even living in a rural area where the natural environment should be more accessible external pressures and distractions can cause you to stop noticing and appreciating it.

The solution

To coincide with the annual Henry Lawson Festival, celebrating poetry and the written word in Grenfell, we engaged nature writer and author Inga Simpson to deliver a Nature Writing Workshop.

Combining nature with writing provides a creative outlet to reconnect with yourself, your senses and start to notice what’s happening around you in the natural environment.

The intended outcome was a boost wellbeing and social connection with likeminded individuals.

The impact

The event attracted new participants who hadn’t attended a Landcare event before. The small group size allowed for everyone in the group to participate, connect and feel heard.

Holding the event at nearby art studio, Patina Gallery, supported our local creatives and had the added benefit of a beautiful bushland setting with views across the region.

Participants left feeling inspired and were excited by the possibility of a writers group forming.
