The solution

The manual clearly describes conservation biologist Dr Matt Cameron’s process and principles for building robust populations of a threatened species.

The approach is a shared effort between scientists and community. It draws heavily on the lessons learned from the delivery of the Burrumbuttock Squirrel Glider Local Area Management Program (LAMP) and the Paddocks for Plains-wanderers LAMP, the community advisory committees, project teams, landholders, the multiple agencies, funding sources, colleagues, Local councils, Landcare organisations and community members.

Early on, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Murray Local Lands Services, and Riverina Local Land Services saw the benefits of the approach and resourced its implementation in southern NSW.  Landcare came on-board and brought the science to the community, turning the idea into reality and shared a common goal.

Built on partnerships and collaboration, a LAMP focuses on future-proofing vital conservation work against changing political tides and funding shifts, deeply embedded into the community.  Backed by rigorous, real-time habitat mapping and targeted species monitoring, you can watch the landscape transform and witness populations thrive.
