Climate Ready Project

YAN is committed to climate action.

  • In 2022 the bulk of seed sown in YAN plant nurseries has been sourced from climate appropriate regions - (bio-regions that Yass is likely to reflect in 2030 to 2050).  The team has completed a detailed document on the whole Climate Ready process - an overview is available on the YAN website.
  • In the Autumn of 2021 Climate Ready trial plants totallying over 1700 were planted across two large trial sites and several smaller sites.  The trial plants included Eucalyptus melliodora Yellow Box, Acacia deaneii, and Dodonaea viscosa.  The first count of plant survival or death was undertaken in November
  • In 2020 the Climate Ready project team undertook detailed planning to source climate appropriate (admix) seed which was used to grow tubestock for three trial plants from Spring 2020 to Autumn 2021
  • In December 2019, the Yass Area Network of Landcare Groups held a native seed collecting workshop with John Weatherstone. Check out a video about the day here.
  • During 2019 members of the YAN Climate Ready project team worked with Nola Hancock from Macquarie University, the author of the Climate Ready Revegetation guide. Click here to learn about Climate Ready Revegetation on YouTube.
  • Yass, Boorowa and Hovells Creek Landcare communities hosted a forum on 25th May 2018 in Yass with over 220 participants to explore how rural communities and farmers can contribute to ameliorating the climate change while benefiting their land. Find out more and watch the event here.
