This workshop, from Community Voice for Hume, is expected to be of particular benefit, for seniors and their family, or others, who are likely to be called upon in times of emergency.

With forecasts of more frequent extreme weather events, as a result of our changing weather patterns, forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology, it is good to know that help is at hand in the form of Community Voice for Hume's proven Workshop - Coping With Extreme Weather Events.

The workshop will help you create a plan of what to do in each particular type of weather emergency and what to have packed and ready to take with you. Note this workshop is not a replacement for a Bushfire plan in terms of defending a property or making it Bushfire safe, but is about your personal safety in weather events and other emergencies, including Bushfires.

As well as helping to keep you safe, the workshop will provide some strategies about keeping cool in summer and warm in winter.

“Coping with Extreme Weather Events” is a two hour workshop delivered courtesy of Community Voice for Hume and the Workers Club who have provided free facilities.

The workshop will draw on your experience to help you to create your plan and was originally developed by the Wingecarribee Council.

The workshop is run by a highly experienced facilitator and tailored to the specific weather conditions of Goulburn and surrounds.

Agenda

  • What do I need to do or need to have to stay safe (in an emergency)?
  • Who do I call in the event of an Extreme Weather emergency?
  • What support is available in Goulburn, eg SES, Medical, Fire Brigade etc?
  • What does "Resilience" man and how can I become more resilient in emergencies?
  • What do I need in my personal emergency kit, also known as a "Ready Box"?

You will leave with the knowledge to complete your plan, a copy of which will be provided in the form of the Red Cross “Rediplan” -a comprehensive guide on how to be prepared and respond to emergencies.
