The North Araluen Creek Rehabilitation Project is directed at maintaining ground water levels and stabilising the compromised landscape of the Araluen Creek and adjoining creeks (including Majors Creek) in the wake of recent drought, bushfire and flooding and looks to deliver more resilient waterways.
This Project is funded through the Dargues Reef Mine remediation responsibilities through the EPAs enforceable undertaking.
The first project is a demonstration project which will focus on approximately 5HA of land next to Majors Creek where the soil is very sandy and rocky, and livestock access the Creek affecting the creek bank stability, quality of water, and flora and fauna.
The culmination of this project will be the planting of 500 trees and shrubs on 28/29th March.
The preparation steps have been completed:
- stakes in the ground,
- weed suppression,
- holes drilled and
- water and fertilizer applied
Upper Shoalhaven Council is supporting us with extra help from Sydney Landcarers coming to assist.
Please let us know if you can assist either day (helps with catering) and we will keep you informed as we get closer to our planting days.
