Todays Young People - Tomorrows Landcarers
Junior Landcare in Railwaytown Public School
Capacity building - LEP23-021-20
The issue
Railwaytown Public School face the challenges of maintaining momentum without support.
As recipients of 2 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants, Railwaytown Public School designed and built a "Bush Tucker Garden" and a 'Vegetable and Flower Garden."
The solution
Western Landcare NSW Local Landcare Coordinator partners with Railwaytown Public School to deliver a fun, interactive, and educational incursions that spark curiosity and encourage environmental awareness. With age-appropriate activities, children gain an understanding of their local landscape and biodiversity.
We are currently focused on indigenous and endemic species, to help children build their connection with our local flora and fauna.
Beyond these memorable experiences, we are supporting the school, its educators and school community to identify and pursue grant and resource opportunities that empower their young people.
The impact
Railwaytown Public School has a dedicated team who have developed a garden learning space and environmental education opportunities. These educators and their volunteering families are the driving force behind their success.
Children care for their school gardens and learn about volunteering by contributing to a shared objective and Western Landcare NSW will recognise and reward their contributions.
Students gain practical skills and understanding of food production, waste management, biodiversity and indigenous perspectives.
Young people are learning the foundational skills today, that will make them the Landcarers of the future.
