In 2006 Berry Landcare held a memorial tree planting in Mark Radium Park for Rick Farley, who together with Phillip Toyne, established the national Landcare movement. On that occasion Linda Burney MP, Rick’s partner, planted an Illawarra Flame Tree (Brachychiton acerifolius). Phillip Toyne died in 2015 and his widow Molly Harriss Olson has kindly agreed to come to Berry to plant a memorial tree for Phillip in Mark Radium Park adjacent to those planted for Rick Farley. Linda Burney has also kindly agreed to return to Berry to support Molly and to replant the Brachychiton acerifolius, which is ailing. We want our memorial trees to be as strong as the movement our founders created. There will be a barbeque after the trees are planted and an opportunity to see the Arboretum of locally indigenous trees that we have established in Mark Radium Park.
