Bidjiwong Community Nursery is managed by The Hills Shire Council. It is a place where volunteers can learn about the native flora of The Hills Shire, participate in propagating native plants and attend environmental workshops.
Bidjiwong Community Nursery produces local native plants for its revegetation projects in the shire’s parks and reserves and also runs a small permiculture garden. Most of the work within the nursery is carried out by volunteers.
Volunteers receive training and experience in all aspects of nursery work including seed saving, propagation of indigenous plants and Occupational Health and Safety.
Community nursery facilities include a volunteer meeting room with kitchen and adjoining pergola, administration room, seed room, tool shed, potting up area, propagation igloos, shade-house, open growing areas - some with benches, automatic watering system and an artificial wetland constructed for filtering nutrients from water.
