An invitation from our Landcare family… Come and join us for some country fun this June long weekend.
Planting trees, meet new friends, make a difference and have some fun!
The Bowning and Bookham Districts Landcare Group invites you and your family to join our landcare family for the June long weekend, from noon 7 June to 10 am on 10 June, to plant little trees on our farms.
Bring the kiddies to the Great Landcare Long Weekend for some dirt and fun - and camping if you want (or not if you don't). Tickets start from $25 a person or $35 a group/family. Plant trees, have fun and make a difference.
Get tickets at Eventbrite (search for Great Landcare Long Weekend, in Bowning) or on our Facebook page Bowning-Bookham Landcare Group.
The trees you plant will be a new generation in the District and will help to improve biodiversity, provide habitat for wildlife, improve the fertility of the soil and shelter livestock from the weather and can offset your carbon footprint.
We will provide trees, tools, accommodation (camping sites with BYO tent), most meals, great company and some surprise extra activities too.
This a relaxed and flexible weekend so while there are activites planned all day Saturday, Sunday and a dinner on Saturday night, there's also time to have a look further afield in the Yass Valley and surrounds. If you're camping with us, you can arrive any time from 1pm on the Friday afternoon and stay until 10am on Monday morning.
Passes for an individual start at $25 or $35 for a family, which also include membership of the landcare group for a year. If you'd love to come but can't make it, remember you can always make a donation towards buying tree guards to protect little trees as well.
Bowning-Bookham District is 20 minutes from Yass NSW, about 1.5 hours from Canberra, 3.5 hours from Sydney, and 6 hours from Melbourne.
Please note: Group/Family passes are for up to 6 people, camping accommodation is one camp site for a tent (sorry, there's not enough room for caravans or camper trailers) and, children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
Passes that include camping accommodation have a site at the Kooranowa Camp. The Camp is 10km from Yass NSW and has drinking water available, showers, toilets, a hall to share (in case it rains), as well as covered outdoor areas (for if you'd prefer to self-cater).
If camping is not your style there are plenty of other options. You can book into the accommodation at the Bowning Pub, nearby Air BnB hosts or other accommodation in Yass - visit https://www.yassvalley.com.au for lots more accomm
Bring a water bottle, boots and warm clothes and of course you're camping . Check the weather forecast to see if you’ll need rain gear.
MEALS
Meals provided are the same whether you have a day or weekend pass:
Saturday – lunch, snacks and dinner.
Sunday – lunch and snacks.
For breakfast you can bring-your-own or head to the Roll-On-Inn or Barney'sAtBookham for a cuppa or a meal. For dinner on Friday and Sunday evening you can try the Bowning Pub or any of the restaurants in Yass.
TRANSPORT
You'll need a car to join in the Great Landcare Long Weekend as public transport does not go directly to the farms or camp site and, we'll be travelling between different farms during the day as well.
This event is part of the Habitat Hops from Burrinjuck to Bango Project and has been assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Environmental Trust.
