Forbes & Parkes National Tree Day Plantings Supporting Local Communities
Delayed National Tree Day events were held in both Forbes and Parkes in August 2025

The issue
Both of the 2025 National Tree Day sites hold significance within their communities. The Forbes site provided a green buffer to the Goldridge Housing Estate and the Parkes site provided further plantings within the parameters of the Parkes Wetland.
The Forbes site will provide a green buffer and habitat in a new housing estate that Forbes Shire Council have been developing, so native plants were required to fit with the aesthetic of the area.
The establishment of the Parkes Wetland has been supported by plantings that tie in with existing Fuzzy Box habitat and work was required to compliment work completed over previous National Tree Day events.
The solution
National Tree Day is an annual event held on the last weekend of July each year in Forbes and Parkes.
This event provides an opportunity to bring together people passionate about their community, improving biodiversity and building community connections, to enjoy each other's company, plant trees and shrubs and enjoy lunch together.
The impact
The re-scheduled National Tree Day dates meant that some of our regulars weren't able to join plantings, but we were still welcomed over 40 volunteers to both events and the groups planted and mulched over 400 trees and shrubs.
Burgers with the lot were a hit for lunch, with over 40 burgers and 20 sausage sangers consumed over the two days.
Central West Lachlan Landcare were pleased to once again work with Forbes and Parkes Shire Councils to deliver National Tree Day activities.
National Tree Day
Established in 1996, Planet Ark's National Tree Day has grown into Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event. The program is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community.
Each year, around 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate Australians about the world around them. While every day can be Tree Day, we dedicate celebration of Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day to the last Friday and last Sunday in July.
