Regional Grant Writing Workshop

The issue
As a result of requesting priorities community of practice training, grant writing training was listed as a priority for the region, with the challenge to find a grant workshop provider who understood Landcare and also had the credentials to deliver a workshop that addressed relevant challenges that face grant writer and provide solutions.
The second challenge was bringing together coordinators from across the Central West Region, covering an area of more than 400km to work together on regional and local grant writing.
With groups from across the region covering several catchments and river systems, there are common, but also diverse topics for grant writing.
The solution
It became obvious that Jessica Leck held the solution. Jessica works in partnership with community-led, natural resource management, conservation and environmental groups to assist in bringing their ideas to life, in a way that reflects their values, and builds their capacity to deliver lasting outcomes.
Jessica set out a program for the day including: Project Design and Planning - Laying the foundations during planning; Project Planning and Co-working; Grant Writing Fundamentals and allowed an opportunity for flexibility within the day, weaving facilitation and strategy into shaping our own ideas and developing our own projects.
The impact
Workshop attendees left with new ideas and goals and with a better understanding of a process forward with grant writing and an ability to recognise and leverage the assets that each group has, that are sometimes estimated, to be able to put forward a robust and positive grant proposal.
This was not only an opportunity for local groups to look at options for grant proposals, but also for the group to come together and look at regional options for projects, based on our regional Strategic Plan.
The workshop provided a base for re-defining priorities and fine tuning the positive attributes that individual groups bring to a partnership with a grant provider.
Learnings
Working together as a region to learn more about grant writing gives individuals an opportunity to work together on common priorities and explore opportunities for expansion and growth with the support of the regional group.
Jessica understood the intricacies of Landcare groups and how they all differ, which provided a base for open discussions with workshop attendees.
