Operation AgWaste
A regionally coordinated campaign targeting the reponsible disposal of common agricultural waste items.
Central West Region Landcare is proud to be partnering with NetWaste on a region-wide project targeting farm waste.
The AgWaste project aims to raise awareness about the responsible management and disposal of waste generated through everyday farming practices across the central west.
“The kind of rubbish we’re talking about includes old tyres, fencing wire, poly pipe, and plastics from silage and silo bags, among other materials,” explained Central West Regional Landcare Coordinator, Danielle Littlewood.
“We know there's a lot of this type of waste that ends up buried or burnt on farm, which can create ongoing environmental problems, potentially impacting soil health, water quality, livestock, wildlife, and the broader landscape.”
Keep an eye on your local Landcare Facebook page for information being shared about this program. Groups participating in the AgWaste program include:
- Mid Macquarie Landcare in the Dubbo/Wellington/Narromine area;
- Central West Lachlan Landcare across Parkes and Forbes;
- Condobolin District Landcare
- Coonamble Landcare
- 3 Rivers Landcare (Dunedoo, Coolah, Mendooran) and
- Weddin Landcare for Grenfell and surrounding areas.
🔥Bury it? Burn it? Stockpile it?
When it comes to farm waste, there are often other options worth considering.
Old tyres, fencing wire, poly pipe, silage and silo bag plastics and other agricultural waste can have long-term impacts on livestock, soil, water and wildlife if not managed appropriately.
That's why Central West Landcare groups, including Central West Lachlan Landcare are partnering with NetWaste on the AgWaste project.
Over the next 12 months we'll be sharing practical information about different types of farm waste, including disposal options, and recycling and reuse opportunities.
AgWaste’s aim is simple: to help farmers and landholders manage agricultural waste safely, legally and responsibly, while protecting our farms, communities and environment.
Before you head to the tip, follow these four quick steps to save you time and money:
📞 Call your local Council Waste Centre first.
🗑️ Check what waste they accept and volume limits.
🚗 Ask how to transport it and where to drop it off.
💰 Find out about fees and charges before you go.
🛻 And remember to secure and cover your load!
Keep an eye on our page for monthly AgWaste updates and practical tips and let us know what types of farm waste you would like to know more about!
