Soil Health Workshop

On Thursday 21st July we held a Soil Health Workshop, facilitated by Kristy Youman from Soil Land Food. The workshop was hosted by a local landholder. Attendees travelled from around the Condobolin region to participate in the hands-on practical workshop.

The issue

Many landholders in the region face issues relating to the health of their soils and have been asking for help tackling these issues on farm. They are trying to move away from farming dominant enterprises, into either grazing, or mixed farming and grazing systems. Challenges during this transition phase are evident across the region.

The solution

Condobolin and Districts Landcare were fortunate to receive funding through the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund and the Biodiversity Conservation Trust which enabled a soil health workshop to be created in order to begin tackling some of these issues faced by landholders. Soil Land Food are a reputable organisation and were highly recommended for such a workshop. The workshop was aimed at local landholders who wished to learn more about their soil health and the importance of biodiversity on farm.

The impact

Thanks to the funding received, there was no cost to attend the workshop. Attendees made the most of the opportunities given to them on the day to get involved and ask questions. This workshop has created further opportunities for follow-on workshops on the topic. This formed part of our grazing support network, which will continue to support landholders from across the region in their grazing management practices.
