Armatree Comedy Festival

A relaxing afternoon of fun and laughter to help relieve some drought related stress and help prevent social isolation

Community Participation - LP004-002

The issue

With the ongoing drought, Coonamble Castlereagh Landcare teamed up with the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (tackling tough times together) to help relieve some drought related stress and prevent social isolation by putting on a comedy show at the Armatree Hotel.

The solution

Coonamble Castlereagh Landcare sought funding from FRRR and their Tackling Tough Times Together program to hold the Comedy festival. The FRRR provided enough funding for three shows but only one show went ahead before the imposition of COVID 19 restrictions.

The impact

The comedy show allowed community members to come together to enjoy a stress free afternoon and forgot about what was happening at home and in their business's for a few short hours. We had four comedians come out to the small outback pub and put on a debate style show "The Bush is always open for business" and people came in droves to attend the comedy show. We had buses come from every road leading into Armatree and the train came out from Dubbo. Over 500 people attended the show - it was a sell out!

Everyone is hoping that the remaining two shows will go ahead post COVID and the funding will also be used to run leather craft, stress free stockmanship and thank the volunteers workshops.
