Landscape Hydration Pilot Program
Supporting local landholders to implement practical landscape hydration techniques through on farm mentoring and collaborative learning.
Capacity building - LP003-010
The issue
Following the success of the Landscape Rehydration Field Day, many local landholders were keen to move beyond theory and begin implementing landscape hydration principles on their own properties. While introductory workshops provide valuable knowledge, many producers require ongoing support and practical guidance to confidently apply these techniques within their own farming systems.
The solution
Coonamble Castlereagh Landcare partnered with Local Land Services to deliver a Landscape Hydration Pilot Program involving three local farming operatoins. Building on the knowledge gained through the initial field day held by the Muloon institute, the program provides participating landholders with ongoing technical support, on farm mentoring and practical guidance to design and implement landscape hydration works suited to their individual properties. The pilot focuses on turning knowledge into action through site specific planning and hands on implementation.
The impact
As an ongoing project, the pilot program is already building confidence and capacity among participating landholders to adopt landscape hydration practices that improve water retention, landscape function and long term farm resilience. By working directly with producers on their own properties, the program is creating demonstration sites that will provide valuable learning opportunities for the wider community and encourage the adoption of practical, locally relevant landscape hydration practices into the future.
