The Geary’s Gap/Wamboin Landcare Group held its 2017 Annual General Meeting at the Group's nursery in Wamboin on 4 November 2017.

The Geary’s Gap/Wamboin Landcare Group held its 2017 Annual General Meeting at the Group's nursery in Wamboin on 4 November 2017. The meeting was chaired by the nursery convenor, Geoff Butler,.

The year's achievements were discussed and plans for 2018 developed.

It was reported that the Group:

  • Donated $1,800 for Land for Wildlife assessments during the year
  • Created a local memorial for Roger Good by buying a seat with a plaque. It has been placed in the Les Reardon Reserve in the new playground in front of the Bywong hall and will be dedicated during the opening of the playground on 16 December 2017. Our Landcare group and Bywong community members recently planted shrubs and ground covers around the playground and around the hall. Many thanks to Jennie Curtis for sourcing the seat and plaque, and organising the installation and plantings.
  • Our stall at the Bywong car boot sale was successful.
  • The Group's financial position remains sound.
  • We gave more than 200 plants to Carwoola Landcare to help Carwoola residents whose gardens had been destroyed by wildfire last year.

Other matters discussed included the following:

  • Attention to best practice in re-potting seedlings sometimes needs reinforcing.
  • Future donations that we make would be tied to requests for help on specific projects, with the goal of achieving Landcare objectives. Donations may be monetary or in kind (such as the provision of plants, expertise and/or labour). An indicative maximum for monetary donations would be $500.
  • Members thanked Geoff Butler for his continuing expert maintenance of the nursery and noted that the new nursery at Langdon’s place is now operational.

The election for the new committee was held and the following people were elected unopposed:

Convenor:  Langdon Patrick
Secretary:  Noela McDonald
Treasurer: Katherine Handel
Committee members:  Geoff Butler, David McDonald, Jacqui O’Leary, Kathy Cook, Brian Higgisson and Jan Gough-Watson.
Noela McDonald continues as the assistant treasurer.
