Smoko with Friends Bald Nob: Fire, Rabbits, Drought Help
Calling all residents of Bald Nob and surrounds – GLENRAC’s Smoko with Friends event is headed your way this month. Why not take a break from the farm for the morning, and drop by the RFS Shed for a catch up with mates over a cuppa and a piece of cake?
This free event will feature a number of guest speakers who will focus on issues of fire, rabbits and drought assistance relevant to people living in the region.
Stephen Pritchard of the Rural Fire Services will be discussing Fire Preparedness and the importance of having an action plan to implement if fire threatens your property. This information should be considered essential knowledge for all people living in rural Australia and will become increasingly important as we enter into the warmer months of the year.
Local Land Services Biosecurity Officer, Perry Newman, will be on hand to talk to attendees about the pervasiveness of rabbits in the region and the types of control methods landholders can implement.
“I will be speaking to locals about rabbit ecology and the impacts the species has on rural farming properties,” says Perry. “I will be addressing a number of rabbit control measures, including best practice rabbit management, tools and strategies available to landholders, rabbit action plans and the Biosecurity Act legislation.”
Members of the GLENRAC team will also be in attendance on the day to answer any questions about drought assistance measures available to farmers, and offer support and assistance to those applying for subsidies.
This event is supported by The NSW Department of Industries and Landcare NSW Program: Managing Established Pest Animals and Weeds and the NSW Rural Fire Service.
