The issue
Granite Borders Landcare Committee Incorporated had a marquee which was an invaluable piece of equipment that was used to provide shade and shelter at field days, training events and shows and was also available to other community groups to use free of charge. The marquee was damaged in high winds at the local agricultural show and needed new parts to repair it. Also, we wanted to enhance displays at events and had seen other displays with table covers that also functioned to cover extra display material stored under the table.
The solution
A successful funding application was made to Landcare NSW's 2017 Regional Australia Bank Funding that allowed for the purchase of the required parts to fix the marquee and purchase the table covers. The marquee frame was repaired by volunteers and now both the marquee and table covers are a welcome addition that are used weekly at the Tenterfield Farmers and Producers Markets. Also, the marquee is loaned to other community Groups at least once a month.
The impact
The funding to repair the marquee was vital to be able to allow for its restoration. Granite Borders Landcare provides a great community resource in been able to offer the community the free use of the marquee. The larger size of this marquee makes it ideally suited to be used for events and training days. The marquee also has the Landcare logo on it so it also acts as a promotional tool for our network.
