The issue

The Greater Sydney Region is growing and new Local Landcare and Bushcare groups are increasing in size and number each year. Greater Sydney Landcare Network (GSLN) now needs a CRM and database to better track, monitor and manage its members, volunteers, stakeholders (including Councils, National Parks and sponsors), projects, programmes, events, communications and impact on the ground.

New membership and membership renewals has been a priority and was set up on the GSLN web site. In the past, this process required staff to manually maintain the GSLN membership database. Salesforce offers an opportunity to make new membership and membership renewals more automated.

The solution

From July 2022, all GSLN membership forms will be driven by Salesforce. An enormous amount of work has gone into movement and integration of contacts and data from Mailchimp, Eventbrite and other locations to Salesforce.

Salesforce will be used by GSLN to centralise information and better manage its people, events and communications. Additionally, it will be used to capture all the projects and programmes that are running and the positive impact on the sites worked on with some 1,000 Local Landcare and Bushcare groups.

Salesforce will also help to capture our impact on the ground in relation to the NSW NRM Plan Priorities for Investment. This data will be informative for Government and all stakeholders. The data can also be shared through our website, newsletter and social media channels to highlight the positive impact of our work.

The impact

Salesforce will help GSLN to monitor and measure:

  • The numbers of members and volunteers, when they joined, how long they have been involved, what support they have received etc.
  • Projects and programmes.
  • Attendance at meetings, conferences, forums, workshops etc.
  • Participation in and impact of on-ground activities such as tree planting, weed control, fencing, maintenance tasks, surveys etc.

Key facts

  • ‘Go Canvas’ is an app that interfaces with Salesforce and allows volunteer, site and activity data to be recorded in real time (with offline capability). This would save time as data would not need to be transferred from paper to the computer. This app would also make it easier to collect more and consistent data from the field. It is an example of another way we can use Salesforce in the near future: integration with third party apps to display and capture data in the field, maintaining volunteer schedules and attendance records, supporting WHS processes and record keeping.
