Capacity to Deliver -

LEP_025_LC003

The issue

With my sales pitch rehearsed and front of mind I approached my first school gate and pressed the buzzer.

The kits have quick, easy and chemical free equipment for teachers to do what they pay service providers to do. I’ll be available for you to call on to deliver training and support, I’ve taught 100 000 students I know what you need and with no bookings, no imposing on other teachers to make up for missed classes to take students out for a full day or expensive buss fees to get them out to that excursion site.  I’m sure I wont be able to meet the demand.

Hmmm, the response was “no thanks, good-bye”! Didn’t even make it to the front desk to open and show the very impressive kit and flash the colorful flyer.

The solution

New Strategies which evolved -
* School Website Research - Does the school promote an Environmental Group? etc
* New teachers looking for ideas. Does the school have any newly graduated teachers looking for lesson ideas?
* Phone and ask for contact details for Head Teachers - Email an introduction to Streamwatch and the benefits
* Explain the Funding source
* Networking
* Social Media
* Professional Groups
* Community Groups - Local Bushcare may have teacher contacts in the school.
* Gaining Community support to influence teachers i.e. Parents with children at the school
* Value adding - Offer full excursion program and or In-servicing
* Provide supporting information such as a database from another user group for teachers to use immediately and understand what they can achieve after some testing of their own
* Timing Is also Key- Teachers are busy. End and beginning of term.

FINALLY - Persistence Beats Resistance

The impact

No one size fits all.

Increased participation was achieved by tailoring the approach in a timed fashion. Best timing is beginning and end of School Term after report writing is seemingly the best time. Teachers have some time and the need to plan for the next term
