Supporting our neighbours
Working with our neighbouring Landcare networks to support their good work
Stronger Together - LLCI012-14
The issue
As a Landcare coordinator, I often feel the need to take a leadership and organisation role in every project undertaken. Stepping back, taking stock of the incredible work surrounding you and then supporting their work through your own capacity is just as useful.
The solution
Here are just a few projects we've supported:
- Kanangra to Wyangala (K2W) Glideways BioBlitz at Jenolan Caves with Sydney University Intrepid Landcare and the Goulburn Yass Landcare Group
- Capertee Regent Honeyeater project with Capertee Valley Landcare and Lithgow Landcare Network
- We've showcased the work of our members too, such as Megalong Valley Public School, CHEN, Sydney Naturalists and the incredible Bushcare and Landcare wins throughout Sydney
- We've supported several members who have become exceptional community leaders in their own events
The impact
- The Capertee regent honeyeater project, one long weekend, planted 500 trees and watered > 3,500
- Thirty volunteers worked as guides, gophers and ad-hoc helpers across the K2W Glideways BioBlitz weekend, assisting ecological professionals to conduct valuable citizen science work
- Our Get Your Hands Dirty bushcare event (NPWS and GSLN) attracted more than 40 applications
- We've shared and jointly hosted NRM and farming workshops with Penrith LLS
- We've helped members host their own micro-Blitzes (bats), surveys and bushcare events
- And, we've shared, supported, nominated and helped with PR of the incredible work of our members - including the conservation work and film of Megalong Valley Public School
