Restoration at Clarkes Beach

Dune Building Weed Eradication Revegetation

Background The eastern end of Clarkes beach was not included in  the extensive dune rebuilding program that followed erosive storms of 1999.  Despite  5 years of sand accumulation  following  erosion,  the  profile of the beach remained  simplified as a flat sand sheet with a  single steep dune. The  dune  featured some large  remnant coastal rainforest trees but had otherwise succumbed  to  infestation  by exotic weed  Bitou Bush ( below left)
