Connecting Rural Women Together
Connecting rural communities through a Rural Women’s Lunch
- LEP23-024-3-2
The issue
Smaller outer rural areas have limited opportunities for social connection with further distances to travel, limited facilities for community groups to meet. It is also difficult to find the best times to plan social activities especially during calving and lambing, planting and harvesting seasons
The solution
Through talking with members in the smaller Landcare groups and understanding there has been limited opportunity to connect with others, Gwymac Landcare sort the need to provide more social connection opportunities in the outer lying areas of Inverell. Gwymac Landcare staff applied for a secured funding through the Future Drought Fund Community Impact Program to host a series of activities in particular Rural Women’s Social events. Landcare staff were excited to discuss a Rural Women’s luncheon with the Delungra CWA and we kicked off planning an event in Delungra west of Inverell. Gwymac Landcare engaged Marlene Brewer and Dog Hudson from ABC TV Muster Dogs to do a demonstration on the day.
The impact
Landcare staff increased our collaboration whilst planning the event and engaged Glen Industries and the Danthonia to assist with catering for the day.
The Delungra Sports and Recreation area was booked for the event to allow easy access for a demonstration with Marlene, Hudson and a small mob of sheep.
The day kicked off with an amazing morning tea provided by Delungra CWA ladies, Marlene and Hudson doing a demonstration for participants, a beautiful lunch was then provided in a marquee on the grounds with a series of presentations held by various guest speakers. Many topics were discussed including the importance of health and wellbeing, sharing experiences and learning from one another, increasing community spirit to build confidence and strengthen social connections. The overall theme on the day was complemented from Rural Women in business presentations: Native Angus Beef, Wyoming Lavender, Glen Industries, . Other highlights included the Wyoming Lavender stall and the Northern Slopes Landcare Nursery stall. A very successful event with 59 ladies in attendance
