Invasive Indian Myna Birds!

Spreading the word about Indian Myna Birds in Inverell

Taking Action - MEPAAW-NT-04-02

The issue

Gwymac wanted to provide information to residents of the Inverell district about the threat of Indian Myna Birds.

The solution

Gwymac invited Clarence Valley Indian Myna experts Kevin and Laura Noble to present to interested residents on how to control Indian Myna Birds.

Gwymac also purchased ten new Myna bird traps to lend to persons at no cost.

Kevin and Laura provided a very informative workshop at the Inverell Community Gardens to a small but passionate group of residents.

The message on Myna birds continues to be delivered via radio and other communication methods. Anecdotal evidence suggests people are becoming more aware.

The impact

The residents were very enthused by the presentation and left with renewed passion for trapping Myna birds. Gwymac is now investigating how we might organise a system for euthanising.
