A poisonous working - bee

Mother-of millions Winda Woppa, Hawks Nest

The Bitou Busters were busy this month removing bitou, morning glory and hundreds of mother-of-millions along The Boulevarde at Winda Woppa, Hawks Nest on Saturday 25 June.

Mother-of-millions is a poisonous plant to people and pets, with dogs being particularly susceptible. It also poses a serious risk to stock as poisoned cattle die of heart failure.

The poison is in all parts of the plant with the flowers being five times more poisonous than the leaves and stems.

They produce hundreds of seeds, which survive in the soil for years. The plants reproduce from any part of the leaves, stems and roots but not the flower. So great care is needed when removing them.

Mother-of-millions are in flower now, through to October.
