A Good Neighbour to Yass Gorge
The full title of this project is "Being a Good Neighbour to the Bush for the Yass Gorge". It follows on from an earlier K2C project working closely with the Friends of Yass Gorge and is assisted by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust.
The overall project aim is to make Yass residents aware of the tremendous natural asset they have in the Yass Gorge. Geologically the Gorge is world famous. The vegetation consists of several communities including natural temperate grasslands, a threatened ecological community, and a rich riverine community. The Gorge has many plants, birds and other fauna that are otherwise rare in the area.
The project includes education/engagement methods such as training workshops, field days, preparation of resource materials, an information booklet, installation of photo-monitoring points and flora plots for citizen science monitoring, and promotion through advertisements in the local media, door-knocking and letterbox-drops.
