Shortage of Government funding

K2C receives many news releases including “Southern News”, the newsletter of the Southern ACT Catchment Group (SACTCG). Much of its activities like other ACT Catchment Groups and Local Land Services are dependant on the Australian Government Landcare Program about which we have run a number of items on our website and our K2C Update.

The lead item in the latest “Southern News” is that SACTCG and other Catchment Groups is in a funding crisis and still does not have secure funding beyond June. It has submitted a budget bid to the ACT government for core capacity to deliver its Strategic Plans across the two themes of community and landscape-scale restoration, which includes supporting members. Without this funding there will be serious gaps in community environmental management in the ACT.

While K2C likes to keep away from “political statements”, its members are very concerned with the constant reduction of funds going to natural resource and biodiversity management and the stop-start nature of this funding.
