Kyeamba Erosion Control working bee

Control erosion on a small scale to prevent sites from becoming major gullies.

It was a busy 2016 for the Kyeamba Valley landcare group, with two practical field days conducted and 17 erosion control works constructed! The field days were a huge success with over 27 participants learning about different techniques and materials to undergo on-ground works. Most participants intended to then apply this knowledge on their own property – alas then the rain came. Although the rain has been wonderful for pasture growth and soil moisture, it has made the ground very boggy. This has in turn delayed the progress of erosion control works for some landholders.

Cam Wilson, erosion control extraordinaire and hard worker, lead a cross-property community working bee over two days on 3rd and 4th February. One each day, 10 landholders provided a helping hand to their neighbours to successfully construct 8.5 erosion control structures. The two day working bee really encapsulated the essence of Landcare – that is, working together to help each other and the environment! A big thanks to all involved.
