Farm Decision Making
Giving farmers the tools for better management
Building our Future - LLCI011–037
The issue
Farmers have made decisions every day. Often they know why they make these decisions about the farm, but when it comes to communicating that decision to someone else, it can be very difficult.
The solution
Along with the help from three other Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc coordinators, four information sessions were run across the Riverina in Wagga Wagga (Kyeamba), Hay, Griffith and Temora, through a community grant from Riverina LLS. Victorian Farm consultant, teacher and farmer, Cam Nicholson from NiconRural presented these workshops in May and June, to enhance farmers decision making and help them understand how personality affects the choices you make.
The impact
The farmers attending the session took home information on how to distinguish between a good decision and the right decision, influenced by the type of decision, the risk management issues and the temperament of the person. These tips are especially handy when working with family and successional planning in an often very emotional farm business.
