Weedwise - A Dynamic Resource
Engaging & educating our community
Local Links - Stronger Communities - MEPAAW-HT-001
The issue
The MidCoast2Tops territory covers an area from north of Taree to south of Tea Gardens and to Barrington Tops in the west. 3 Part time co-ordinators working if different landscapes worked to deliver our combined MEPAAW project. We used the Weedwise app to engage & inform members of the community,
The solution
In conjunction with our Regional Landcare Facilitator & Council Weeds Officers, Landcare Co-ordinators organised events across the Hunter Local Land Services area. Workshops, sessions and field walks were targeted to an area or groups needs. We invited guest speakers, Local Land Services Staff to present and used the Weedwise app as part of each event.
The impact
While every event had a different aspect or focus, Weedwise was the common thread.
Events included "Pop up stalls" at the Weekly farmers market in Wingham & Taree Library, an introductory session for a new group forming at Upper Lansdowne, Giant Parramatta Grass & Emerging Threats sessions in Wingham Bulahdelah and Weed Whacking at Bungwahl
Attendees at our events numbered 181, with 155 surveys completed and the reach of our advertising is conservative at 6645 (newspaper distribution, social media likes, rural mail box flyer drops and direct emails)
All events were well received and attended. The app was easy to demonstrate, users found it informative and easy to navigate.
