The issue

Mid Lachlan Landcare wanted to update our local teachers and students on all of the fascinating issues we expose our visiting school tour groups to. The location of Cowra is of enormous interest to educators and students from all over Australia.

Mid Lachlan Landcare host approximately 450 visiting students each year and wanted to spread the word on our environmental issues and solutions to our local schools as well.

The solution

Mid Lachlan Landcare applied for a Grant through Central Tablelands Local Land Services to run a 'Teach the Teacher' day. The aim of the training was to link Biodiversity to all stages of the curriculum - Primary to Senior High School. It was offered to all private and state schools from the Cowra and Canowindra region.

We gathered resources and speakers from Local Land Services, Office of Environment and Heritage, Department of Primary industries and Mid Lachlan Landcare representatives to make this training locally relevant and arm the teachers with the means to use this information within their own classrooms.

The impact

Feedback from teachers attending :-

“It was a worthwhile topic relevant to all years of learning,” Participant Roxanne Breen from St Edwards, Canowindra, said.

“What a fantastic day with extremely knowledgeable presenters. Lots of great ideas to take back to school,” Tracey Blattman from Neville Public said.

Clint Cole from Cowra High described the day as “awesome. I love the resources we were given”.

Education is an important strategic goal of Mid Lachlan Landcare. Empowering and providing the resources for our teachers to teach their students locally relevant information is absolutely essential to achieve our goal.
