Local Water Quality Sampling
Mid Macquarie Landcare has been contracted by DCCEEW to monitor water quality in local streams.
Mid Macquarie Landcare are part of a network of Landcare groups across the Central West and Central Tablelands that are working together to build an accessible water quality data set focusing on salinity across the catchment.
When salinity levels rise, environmental health and land productivity declines.
DCCEEW are seeking to build a collective understanding of where the salt in our landscape is coming from in order to have the greatest chance of keeping salinity levels under control.
The data we collect will be interpreted by salinity experts who create a picture of what’s typical for an individual site or water course, and what causes salinity in a particular location to change over time. These insights can then go on to inform management decisions in a way that maximises return on investment.
Keep an eye out for Local Landcare Coordinators Danielle Littlewood and Bron Powell scooting around the region carrying out sampling for this project!
