The issue

Challenge: To re-engage with the Wellington community. Both Mid Macquarie Landcare and the Friends of Burrendong Arboretum have been experiencing challenges with operations and volunteer engagement.

The solution

Solution: Our Landcare group partnered with the Friends of Burrendong Arboretum to host a display at the Wellington Show, working together to increase interest and engagement from the community in environmental issues. The Saving our Species team also contributed to the event, providing display resources about the Bats in Backyards project we worked with them on this year.

The impact

Impact: A highly interactive stall display resulted in good visitation from the public attending the show. The community provided feedback to our survey questions, we had 11 new people signup for Landcare group membership and interest in ongoing activities. The Arboretum sold about 100 native tubestock and a number of copies of their new publication.

In addition to this, we strengthened our partnership with the Friends of Burrendong Arboretum, making plans for additional activities to deliver together into the future.
