Improving Soil Structure on Sodic Soils

The project aims to improve soil structure on sodic soils in a typical rice and winter cereal rotation.

Trial work will compare in-situ composting and organic matter incorporation against traditional management of soils post harvest.

The trial treatments include;

  • 4m3 of a locally manufactured commercial compost (A1 compost)
  • 10 T/ha pig manure and incorporated stubble
  • 10 T/ha pig manure
  • Gypsum - burn stubble/gypsum/incorporate
  • Mulch stubble and incorporate
  • Control - burn stubble/plough
