Landcare Coordinator Initiative reforms the Eastern Riverina Landcare Group

A new Landcare Group for the Eastern Riverina

A recent meeting of enthusiastic people at The Rock resulted in the Eastern Riverina  Landcare Group being reformed. The Group will represent landholders and the general community in the Henty, Lockhart, The Rock, Yerong Creek and Mangoplah region. Eastern Riverina Landcare President Allana Barrett said "We aim to encourage continued sustainable land use in our farming systems and to protect and enhance the natural environment. We are ably supported by Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc., Holbrook Landcare, Riverina Local Land Services and the Lockhart Shire Council."
The new landcare executive are asking landholders, former Land Care Groups and community members to contribute their history, issues and ideas to help guide the future of landcare in the Eastern Riverina. “By working with the community, we hope to continue to offer informative events and achieve on-ground works that meet the needs of our community” shares the landcare vice chair, John Holstein.
A drone demonstration workshop will be the highlight of the Official Launch  being held at the Yerong Creek Hall and Bowling Club, Cole Street Yerong Creek on Wednesday 31st May 2017 from 7am to 11am.  A light  breakfast will be served.
Drones have  an exciting future  in the agricultural industry including, mustering, controlling weeds, monitoring watering-points , stock and  plant growth. “What better way to kick-start a new group than to host a demonstration workshop where participants can learn all about the newest technology in agriculture” says local landcare coordinator, Maddy Gorham.
The presentation will be from Ben Watts  from "Bralca" Molong. Among an array of qualifications Ben holds a Masters in Sustainable Agriculture and a Diploma in Rural Business and he will talk about how drones can assist you in your agricultural enterprise and the laws relating to the use of drones for private use along with practical demonstrations. You will also learn the basics of flying a drone including, setup, procedures and safety checks, how to control your drone and, basic maintenance and repair of your drone.
